Green Zone is a two-hour university training program that educates administrators, faculty and staff on military and veteran culture and the military-to-university transition. The training is designed to bring awareness to the realities of military-connected students, and, most importantly, equip the university community with the knowledge to foster a safe and welcoming environment for this student population. Green Zone training is hosted in the fall and spring.
Learning Objectives:
- Become familiar with the basics of military structure, culture, and jargon
- Understand the military-to-university transition
- Learn the physical and mental impact of military service on its servicemembers
- Become familiar with the military and veteran educational programs and procedures
- Give visibility to and gain awareness of experiences of SIUE’s student veterans and military students
The first hour is a presentation of learning objectives 1 through 4. The second hour covers objective 5 with a panel of student veterans sharing their individual experiences of being current or former military while navigating the structures of higher education.
