Proctoring Options and Features
As more courses move to the online learning environment, assessments can be more challenging to maintain security. If learning in your courses cannot be assessed using alternative formats, consider some of the proctoring options and features that have been added to Respondus Monitor.
Show Your Work
Some online assessments require work to be done the old-fashioned way with paper and pencil. You can enable Respondus Monitor to allow students to “Show Your Work” with hi-resolution images that are uploaded at the end of the session.
Screen Recording
For additional testing security, you can now select to have the test-taker's computer screen recordedd . This new feature adds to the previous recording of the student while taking the assessment and startup sequence . The 24/7 Live Chat Help will assist students with any issues during the process no matter when they take the assessment.
External Domains
Respondus Monitor also allows assessments to contain links to external web domains . This option allows students to access the initial page but maintains the LockDown Browser so navigating beyond the linked page is blocked.
Accessibility
LockDown Browser meets all web content accessibility guidelines to allow students to use assistive technology during their assessment session. These technologies include: screen readers, keyboard navigations, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, math accessibility, and magnification.
Respondus + Pearson
Our license with Respondus Monitor can be used with Pearson MyLab products for exams utilizing the publisher’s LMS assessments. The setup is done directly in Pearson MyLab with the same features available in the Blackboard version.
Other Publisher LMSs
McGraw Hill Connect offers their own proctoring through Proctorio with options for the Basic Free or Plus $17.50 packages. Details on each of these options can be found on the McGraw Hill website .
Cengage can also utilize Respondus Monitor through Blackboard to administer assessments within their LMS that are linked to a Blackboard course. Cengage offers other proctoring options with Honorlock and Proctorio as well at additional cost.
Alternative Forms of Assessment
Consider other options for measuring learning outcomes that do not require a proctored assessment. Authentic assessment can come in many forms that might be a better fit for the course objectives and their manifestation in the real world. The Faculty Development Center looked at strategies, best practices, and alternative forms of assessment in this Midweek Mentor Blog .
