- Double-check with your roommate to see if they are planning to bring these as well. Microwaves are permitted in the first-year residence halls. Only one per bedroom with an 800-watt limit.
- Go to Campus Fridges to reserve a fridge and/or microwave rental for the year. Rentals complete by August 1 will be in your room when you arrive for move-in!
- While you will have access to the wireless network, there are times that you will benefit from the faster speed, lower latency, and reduced interference a wired connection offers.
- The SIUE Residence Housing Association has a partnership with SwakU to provide students and families with a convenient, affordable way to ensure you have sheets that will fit the extra-long mattresses in our residence halls and Cougar Village. Linens are delivered to your home during the summer. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
- Beds are set at the highest setting (3 feet off the ground) at your arrival. You should only submit a housing work order to request an adjustment if you would like the bed lowered or bunked.
What NOT to Bring
- full-size refrigerators (only units up to 5.0 cu. ft. are permitted)
- pets (other than fish in an aquarium)
- firearms or explosive devices
- controlled substances
- LED light strip
- humidifier
- alcohol containers empty or full
- candles with wicks intact/incense
- flushable wipes (Flushable wipes are not flushable and not good for the pipes.)
- ceiling fans
- space heaters
- cooking appliances with open elements (i.e. hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, Foreman Grills)
- single and multiple-use extension cords (must be U.L. approved outlet strip with fuse or breaker)

- wireless printer (Wireless printers cannot connect to an enterprise wireless network like SIUE’s. Printers that broadcast their wireless signal (e.g. Wireless Direct) can conflict with the campus WIFI and impact the wireless signal of those in your immediate area. Make sure that you have any cables required to connect your device to your printer. You can also remotely print to campus printers using SIUE Webprint.)
- wireless video streaming devices (Wireless streaming devices cannot connect to an enterprise wireless network like SIUE’s. If your device has an Ethernet port, you can use the wired connection and register the device in the same way you register a game console. Devices without an Ethernet port include; Amazon Fire Stick, Roku (1,2,LT, Streaming Stick), Playstation (PSP, Vita), and Nintendo (DS, DSi, 3DS, 2DS).)
