Do I need to submit a close request for my approved IRB protocol?

A PI must submit a close request to the IRB upon completion or termination of a human subject's research project. This includes any analysis of data that contains identifiable information or identifiable biospecimens. The close request must be submitted via Kuali before the protocol expires.

A PI should only submit a Close Request:

  • When individually identifiable data and biospecimens are no longer being collected and all identifiable private information has been removed from the data set and biospecimens that will be used for analysis purposes.
  • When the SIUE investigator will not be involved in the data management or analysis and all data collection at SIUE has been completed.

To submit a close request, PI’s will:

  • Click Close Request on the right side of the protocol,
  • Fill out the close request form, and then Submit.

A protocol CANNOT be re-activated once it has been closed.

Please note, all research records must be maintained for a minimum of three years after the research is completed and the study is closed with the IRB.

If you have questions about the close request process, please contact [email protected]
