U.S. Classified Graduate Application Instructions
General Information
We are pleased you are interested in SIUE. This material provides information on applying for admission as a degree-seeking graduate student. Please review it thoroughly before completing the application.
Applicants must satisfy the admission requirements and be approved for admission to graduate study by both the Graduate School and the academic program to which application is made. Earning a baccalaureate degree from SIUE does not guarantee admission into graduate study.
Admitted applicants who were born on or after January 1, 1957, are required to provide Health Service with a completed Immunization Record Form and proof of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella and tetanus/diphtheria. This requirement is in compliance with legislation enacted by the State of Illinois.
The graduate catalog and course schedules are available online. Select a term and then click "submit" to see what courses are offered.
Application and Admission
To apply, submit an application via the apply now webpage. Please review the graduate admission checklist for more information on required application materials.
Application for admission to a degree program is a two-step process. Applicants must be approved by the Graduate School before the application is referred to the department for review. Visit the degrees and programs page or contact the graduate program director of your intended program for questions about specific program requirements, such as test scores, personal interviews, personal history forms or letters of recommendation. Applicants assume full responsibility for supplying any credentials or data required for admission.
Applicants must request that an official transcript be forwarded to the Office of Graduate Admissions from the institution granting the baccalaureate degree and from all institutions at which post-baccalaureate coursework has been completed or is in progress. Applicants whose official transcripts have not been received by Graduate Admissions cannot be admitted to the Graduate School.
File completion deadline: Application files must be complete at least four weeks before the first day of the term. However, several departments have earlier deadlines than the general dates.
Fees and Deadlines
There is a non-refundable application fee of $40 for all graduate programs and for returning applicants who have not attended SIUE as a graduate student for the past nine consecutive terms. Online payments have an additional $1.10 processing fee. Each application requires its own fee. Payment should be made through your SIUE application center. Applications received without the fee will not be processed.
Applicants who decide to change their term of entry after submitting an application or being admitted will be required to submit a new application for the desired term. If an applicant submits a new application to change their term of entry, no additional graduate application fee will be required for the next two consecutive terms or one academic year.
The application fee is automatically waived for current and former U.S. military services members.
Application Status
You can check the status of your application via the SIUE application center. Once you submit your application, you will receive email notifications regarding missing transcripts and other materials required. Make sure to check the email address you provided on the application. Please note that we do not send confirmation emails when materials have been received.
You will be notified by the Graduate Admissions Office once your application is accepted by the Graduate School and approved by the department. Admission to a program becomes effective only after approval by the appropriate program faculty and the Dean of the Graduate School. You will also be notified if you are not accepted. If any conditions are attached to your admission, the fulfillment of those conditions is your responsibility.
Providing Academic Credentials
If you apply online, you may upload copies of academic credentials for initial review by the Graduate School and department. These documents will be used to determine whether the applicant is qualified for admission.
However, official transcripts must be mailed directly to Graduate Admissions by the institution where the baccalaureate/post-baccalaureate degree is in progress or has been completed. Applicants who graduated from SIUE, do not need to submit SIUE official transcripts.
Final official degree-bearing transcripts should show the date the degree was awarded. Please direct all transcripts to:

Failure to submit final official transcripts will create a registration hold.
