Double Degree Partnership With Hochschule Mainz, Germany
We have partnered with Hochschule Mainz in Germany to offer a double degree program. SIUE students can earn two civil engineering degrees, qualifying them to pursue engineering careers in both the United States and the European Union.
Classes in Germany are taught in English by well-qualified faculty. SIUE students study in Germany after their fall semester of junior year. The curriculum will prepare students for international career opportunities by introducing both US and German engineering practices. Students also take a German language course their first semester of travel.
Mainz, Germany is located in the heart of Europe on the Rhine River. Outside the classroom, students experience culture by visiting markets, wine festivals, soccer matches, and taking weekend trips by train to other nearby countries. Mainz is the home of Hans Guttenberg, inventor of the printing press, and many other sites of historical significance.
Students participating in the double degree students will have opportunities to complete an internship in Germany or elsewhere in the European Union. The cost of living in Mainz is very similar to Edwardsville and students keep their SIUE tuition rate during the year in Germany. Scholarships may be available to support your travel costs to/from Germany. Participating in the double degree program normally requires one additional semester of time, because the semesters in Germany follow a different schedule than in the US.
