Therapy Groups
Group therapy is a form of counseling treatment designed to draw upon the healing found in community, under the expert guidance of a counseling provider. Typical benefits of groups include enhancing hope, realizing one is not alone in their suffering, imparting of knowledge, corrective emotional and cultural experiences, emotional release, and reconciliation of matters related to one’s existence.
Prior to beginning, all groups require a group screening. A group screening is a confidential meeting between you and the group facilitator to determine if the group is a good fit for you. If you are specifically seeking group counseling, please let our front office staff know this, and you will be allowed to bypass the initial assessment and be directly scheduled for a group screening with that designated group’s leader. Many of our Counseling Groups have co-facilitators. If you have any questions, would like more information, or need to set up a group screening, required for all groups, please call 618-650-2842 and press 1.
When you arrive at the Counseling & Health Services reception area for group, please inform the SIUE employee at the front desk that you are there for one of the groups and then wait in the reception area. The facilitator will come and get you when the group is ready to begin.
