Supporting Faculty and Student Research
The Environmental Sciences Program has state-of-the-art research facilities. The major analytical instruments include:

A cold-frame greenhouse on a 1-acre field research site
Individual faculty research laboratories provide students with hand-on research experience in different disciplines, ranging from molecular toxicology to GIS spatial analysis.
Individual Department Labs also have a suite of portable instruments for quantifying personal exposure and identifying hazardous locations for environmental pollutants. These resources include the following:
A Bruker TRACER 5i handheld XRF spectrometer, which can determine trace elements in soils, pipes, surfaces, consumer products, and other environmental materials.
A Hach DR1900 portable water spectrophotometer, for analysis of drinking water, waste water, and surface water contaminants and constituents
A TSI SidePak AM520 personal aerosol monitor, for analysis of dusts, mists, and other fine airborne particles
Two Dylos air quality monitors for counting airborne fine and coarse particles
Digi-Sense and Extech SL400 portable data-logging noise meters for characterizing environmental and personal noise exposures
Various survey and GPS equipment
Facilities for sediment size distribution analysis
