Integrative Studies
Why integrative studies?
The fast change of pace in our society is creating new career opportunities for individuals trained in multiple disciplines. The integrative studies graduate program allows students to access expertise from two areas and integrate courses into a degree that meets the needs of an emerging career field.
Consider integrative studies if:
- You have a career interest in an emerging field that crosses academic disciplines, such as cultural heritage and resources management, marketing communications, or engineering management
- You want to advance in a non-traditional sector or start your own business
Design Your Own Degree
If none of the existing integrative studies programs meet your interests and needs, you can work with the Graduate Program Director to design an academic plan with at least two focus areas from participating programs. Your focus areas will be included on your transcript to provide information about the academic fields you specialized in during the master’s program. Note that the following programs do not participate in integrative studies: art and design studio, art therapy counseling, psychology, and public administration.
What can I do with a degree in integrative studies?
A Master of Arts or Master of Science in integrative studies can lead to a multitude of career paths as well as entry into doctoral programs. This degree will meet the needs of students who are:
- Seeking knowledge for advancement in a specific industry
- Looking to move to an emerging field that is multidisciplinary
- Starting their own business
Contact Information
The director of integrative studies is your first point of contact if you would like to pursue this program. Initially, you will meet with the director to discuss your goals and determine the appropriate focus areas. The director will then facilitate a meeting between you and faculty members with expertise in the desired focus areas. You will then work with these faculty mentors to draw up a plan of study that integrates the focus areas.
