SIUE Reverse Transfer of Credit for Associate Degree
Students who transfer to SIUE who have earned at least 15 hours of transferable academic credit at an Illinois community college and completed a cumulative total of at least 60 credit hours of transferable credit at SIUE and previously attended postsecondary institutions may request a reverse transfer of credit from SIUE to the community college previously attended for potential awarding of an associate degree from the community college.
If a student can answer yes to the following statements, they may be eligible:
- I have transferred a minimum of 15 transferrable hours to SIUE from an Illinois community college.
- I have earned a minimum of 60 transferrable hours from any previously attended postsecondary institution(s).
- I have not previously earned an associate degree from an Illinois community college.
- I am aware of the degree requirements to earn my associate degree and will complete the SIUE courses to satisfy those requirements.
Information will be sent from the Office of the Registrar, Transfer Center each academic year to those who are potentially eligible to participate. Interested students will be given the opportunity to opt-in by completing a Reverse Transfer of Credit Application Release Form releasing a transcript to the selected, previously attended, community college.
SIUE will then send a copy of the student’s transcript to the specified community college for review. The community college will contact the student regarding the potential awarding of an associate degree. These individuals have the potential to "transfer back" university courses that count toward an associate degree and earn that associate degree even while they are in progress to completing the baccalaureate degree. Any questions related to reverse transfer of credit should be directed to the Transfer Center, [email protected] or 618-650-2133.
