Biography and Research Interests
Dr. Bhargav Patel was appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in August 2021. After earning the Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Gujarat University, India, he moved to the U.S. to pursue M.S. in medicinal chemistry at St. John’s University, NY. There, he worked on analog synthesis for the development of HCV NS5B inhibitors and anti-MRSA compounds. Further, he continued his doctoral research in medicinal chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Tanaji Talele, working on the development of P-glycoprotein and PARP-1 inhibitors. Dr. Patel followed his pursuit in the drug discovery field and joined Dr. Brian S. J. Blagg at the University of Kansas as a postdoctoral researcher. Soon, he moved with the group to the University of Notre Dame where he worked on the development of Cruentaren A analogs. Currently, Dr. Patel’s research endeavors are focused on the discovery of anti-cancer agents as well as compounds for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
